New Costume Idea.

Our idea for costumes have changes, this is because we thought about our previous idea with the corsets and felt this would look tacky and uncoordinated. Our idea now is that the girls will be wearing sparkly outfits which will most probably be black, they will not all be dressed the same however it will work as they will be in same colours. For an example someone will be in a black sequin dress, someone else will be in a black sequin skirt with a black top and someone will be in black sequin leggings. We thought the sequins will give the feel of "show girls", we also thought that the girls could have a flower in their hair.

Hurtwood House Music video

I think this music video would be quite easy to create with a budget. The first thing I'd do is get a cast for the video, well that's simple use the people in the class I'm sure most people will be willing to help out. I then would go to the students at college who take dance and ask them if it was possible to do a dance routine in our video, which i reckon would be quite easy to do. After I've got all the cast i would think of a location, well there is lots of scenes of a "bedroom", so to find a girls bedroom wouldn't be hard to find as we could use mine and surprise surprise my room is purple so this matches to the video. The rest of the footage could be filmed on a green scenes as the sets just change colour really, and so we could edit the colour of the background in final cut. To get a laptop for the video wouldn't be to tricky as we have got laptops at college, also a lot of people have their own so I'm sure we would be able to borrow it. The costumes they wear in the video are not to over the top, in fact a lot of the costume used are like everyday clothes, and some going out clothes and I'm sure most girls have a lot of going out dresses, so we are sorted for costume. In one of the scenes it is set by a graffiti wall, so we could just use the graffiti wall in Coleridge, so that's sorted. To get the shots on the laptop would be easy as we can overlay shots on final cut, then shrink the size of the footage to look likes on the laptop screen.

Fridays Lesson

In Fridays lesson we were told to take some photos of what we thought that could relate to our music video, Louis and i decided to take photos of what we thought our staging could be like, we took a collection of shots from different angles to make it clear how we might want it to look.

Louis and I thought to go to the music block first as we aim to have lots of different instruments in our video. We took photos at different angles to make the photos look more interesting.

Make-up Ideas.

Fake eyelashes give a dramatic look, i want the eyes and lips to be the main feature of makeup. The eyes will be very dark and bold, to create this i will use black eyeliner, fake eyelashes, liquid eyeliner and mascara.

Simple red lips, give a bold look. I will create this look through using simple lip balm and a red lip stick, however i do not want to go over the top with the red lipstick so i will use a slightly paler red.

If we decide to use eyeshadow, i will go for the whole "smokey eye" look, this look can be created simply by using a collection of eye shadows from blacks to greys to whites. For the smokey eye look you start at the bottom of the lid with the darkest colour then start to build up the colours going darkest to lightest. This look is easy to do but has a dramatic effect.

Inspiration

The other day Louis mention to me Bugsy Malone's work, this is because it has the jazz feel to it with all the instruments and dances. Louis suggested to me that we do the same sort of thing in our music video, which is creating a jazz club for just teenagers this is a good idea as these means it will be easy to cast for our video. The dance routine in this video has inspired me, as we plan to have a routine our video so this gives me an idea of what the dance could look like.

Video shot analysis.

Louis and i were counting the amount shots in 1min 30secs of certain music videos. We used one from Hurtwood House " i see girls", we also used a well know professional video we chose to use Chipmunk "Diamond rings" we chose this as we believe it links to our idea of our music video.

"I see girls" Hurtwood house.

Louis and I worked out that it had 98 shots shown in the space of 1min 30 secs, however these are shots that are a collection of shots that are all the same however have been cut up and placed in an order so its not the same shot shown for a long period of time. This video is very good and a very fast pace moving video, it keeps the interest of the viewer as you do not see anything for to long.

"Diamond Rings" Chipmunk.

We looked at this video and worked out it has 67 shots in the first 1min 30secs, this video is like the Hurtwood house video as it has a collection of shots cut up and spread out and put in a Pacific order, this is so there are no clips shown to long this keeps the viewer interested. I really like this video and it is inspiration to me as it has elements to it which we want in our music video.
Looking forward to..
I am looking forward to creating the look of the video, for an example the creating of the set and all the make up and costume. i am also looking forward to creating our idea, and see what works and what doesn't. I am excited to see what the final out come will be, and see if all our ideas worked well together.

Worried?..
I am worried about the set, and how we are going to make it look realistic like a jazz club. I also am slightly worried that or group will not get on and ideas will clash, however I'm sure our group will pull together and work through any miss understandings.

Fix the problems?..
We can create the right set by incorporating the right lighting in the set, for an example flashing red and green lights which would give feel of a jazz club. Also spot lights will create and effective effect.

Thursday, 28 January 2010

In today's lesson Louis, Charna and I had a group discussion about how we want our video and what ideas we had. We have decided on quite a simple idea of our video being set in one of the media rooms at long road this is because its all black, this will lets be able to dress the set up how we like. We have decided that the beginning of the video will be shots of the girls getting ready and shots of some of the boys walking on to the set, these will be very quick shots. It will then get further in to the video where the girls walk on "stage" and you see the men's faces drop, there will be a close up of the shots. We still have things to think about but our idea is coming along well.

FEEDBACK

This is the feedback me and Louis received this lesson on our idea for wicked little girls, most of it was positive which is really good. I'm glad we got Wicked little girls as our song as i believe it will be a good video that we can create.
  • Location might be hard to find.
  • Add more detail to what the video will actually be like.
  • It may be hard to get a decent car.
  • Good Concept.
  • Well thought out costumes and make up.
  • Sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
  • The theme fits the song well.
  • Clear idea.
  • Dance routine sounds interesting.
  • a lot of research has been done.
  • Ambitious idea.
  • The beginning sounds interesting.

Costume Idea.

This is a photo of Em and I, this an idea of costume we could use as it fits in with the whole "jazz" theme. I think that these costume would work well, as they are not to over the top and don't look overly tacky.

Mood Board

I created this mood board for Number One Enemy by Daisy Dares you, this is because this is our back up song and so i thought i would create a mood board with some of our ideas on it.

Wicked Little Girls Lyrics.

Wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
And some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight

You think that I'm a lady? You think that I won't fight?
I'll make your eyes shine like a liliqoi moonlit night whoa oh
You think you're my one and only, only?
Sophisticated Yoni told me:
"You gots to love livin' while you livin' or you won't love life"

I'm the high pimpstress, I'm honeybrown
I'm the baddest bitch to ever hit this town
Cornbread woman, yo ho and a bottle of yum
I'm gonna have a party with my body, do ya wanna come?
Well alright

Cause we're such wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
And some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight

Hey girls, I'm back again, that vixen nobel and I brought a friend
Bend the rules, headline "bad news", it's the Sisters of Salem, they on the loose
Shakin' her caboose like Dottie, Octopussy like a James Bond hottie
Smokin' like a Cuban, when you're with Mikey Reuban, better know what you're doin'
Or get kicked out right away, gonna hide away
I'd advise you not to play with those

Wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
And some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight
[2x]

Here come those devils, cheeky sneaky rebels
Every day and every night, hot steppin is what we like

Wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
Some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight
[2x]

Insipration for our music video.

Chicago The Musical:
Lady Marmalade: Pink

Toxic: Britney Spears
Womanzier: Britney Spears
Diamond Rings: Chipmunk
Don't Cha : Pussycat Dolls

Treatment.

Esthero - “Wicked Little Girls”

I want the look of the video to have a jazzy feel to it, it will have a lot of dance to create interest and keep the viewers hooked. The look will be based on the genre “show girls” but stripped back slightly, so it’s not so full on that it looks tacky. There will be a variety of looks of different people in the video, so everyone looks different and stands out in their own way. The type of dance routine I plan to use is jazz, this is because I believe it fits in well with the theme showgirls. I also would like the video to look slightly like the Moulin rouge and Chicago where its all about glitz and glamour. A lot of this will be done through different lighting and costumes. I will be able to create the look of all people in the video, which will include make up. My idea of the makeup should be big and bold but the main feature should be the eyes, this means fake eyelashes and full on eye shadow.

I want the video to be set in a jazz club with a band playing instruments such as the sax to get a real feel of the scene. If we are not able to find a jazz club to use, we can create the set in college where we can set up a band on stage.

In the video I would like there to be backing singers which could be wearing corsets to fit in with the whole showgirl/ jazz scene, they will be trying to seduce the men in the club through little expression, for an example winking etc. This is to link with the song, as it is about girls playing with boy’s emotions.

The beginning of the video starts simply with the girls getting ready to perform, so this shows them putting on their makeup etc, there will be a close up of the main singer with all her makeup, and lots of mid shots of the girls getting ready. From this scene we will cut it to a man walking in to the jazz club with a few friends, he will be dressed relatively different in which he will be in a suit and the others dressed less smart, so maybe jeans and a shirt. This is to show importance; also it’s to show this is the main boy who’s going to get leered in by the girl’s tricks.
We then will cut from that scene to the stage where you can see the band starting to play there music, there then will be a low shot where the girls start to walk on stage and perform. As you see this shot we will cut back to boys to show their expressions from seeing the girls. Then there’s a close up of one of the girls winking, then zoom out from the wink and the girls start to sing. The camera then follows the girls round the stage as they start to dance and try to make the boys join in with their flirty ways, however the main singer stays on stage. There are a few close ups of faces of the men with their “ happy” expressions on there faces, and some long shots of the girls dancing. There will be a mixture of shots from the back up singers dancing, to the band, to shots of just the main singer, I think the mix up shorts will keep the viewer interested. The end shot will be the girls walking back stage and jumping on to some kind of chair looking and laughing at each other. Then it fades to black.

PostCard

We designed this post card to promote " wicked little girls" soon to come out music video. Our idea was to keep it simple but bold. We created this look through getting an image of the artist " Esthero" then putting a filter on it on Final Cut, this filter made the outline of her just show and took all color out of it. When we put the filter on, we thought it would be a good idea to make her eyes stand out and be the most prominent part of the image. In this case we decided to make them darker than everything else, which in my opinion brings the boldness to the post card.

Mood Board

This is our mood board we created this lesson. Our mood board is to represent our ideas for the song "wicked Little Girls". At first we listened to the lyrics in the song, and decided the song was about girls playing with boys emotions. This made us think of many things, we decided to look up things like Chicago the musical because of the dances in it, and we believe that if we put a dance in our video we could create a routine like that. We also thought of costumes which we thought would go well with the song, for example we thought that corsets would be a good item to use as it could been seen as a "seductive" outfit. We also got images of feathers, as the song had that hole show girl theme towards it and feathers can be associated to show girls.

Possible Sound Tracks for our music video.

1) I'm not your enemy.
2) Wicked Little girls.
3) Everywhere.

For all these tracks we have a clear idea of what we could do with each of them, and belive we will get a very good out come if get to use the songs we have chosen.

Music list

These are the songs we have been given to choose from for our music video. Our groups favourites were Wicked Little Girls, I'm not your enemy, 1234 and Everywhere. This is because we all had different ideas for this tracks and as soon as they started to play we felt like they would be easy to lip sync to as we know the songs. The only problem with these songs are that they could be to well know, however i believe we could do a lot with them if we get the chance to use them.

The other songs in the list, we felt that we couldn't really do much with them and a lot of them were quite similar. We felt it would be harder to lip sync the songs as none of us are very familiar with the songs, in which we felt it would be best if we roughly knew the lyrics to the songs so it looks more believable when lip syncing.
On Tuesdays lesson Jasmine came and gave us a talk about the media industry and how it can relate to us. Jasmine made an A level music video in her past, and sent it off to the BBC Blast competition. Her video was fantastic and defiantly didn’t look like a media students piece of a work. It was so good that it won the competition, the prize was to make a music video worth £3000 with a will know company, this meant working for three weeks none stop with people in the industry. She created a video to the song “lets dance” by the Wombats.

Jasmine said that one of the first things she had to do when starting to make the new music video, was to make a Treatment. A treatment is a collection of ideas of how you want your music video to be like it. It includes visuals, key words, lots of notes and it always has to be straight to the point. Jasmine said that the lyrics to the song she was making a video for helped frame her ideas.

Jasmine told us that the person with the main role in the industry is the producer. The producer is basically in charge of everything, anything she or he says goes. This includes being in charge of the budget, in charge the whole team, in charge of the artist and music.

When Jasmine was creating her budget music video, she had the role of being the director, the director is second in the media industry hierarchy. The director directs what’s going on and what the sets meant to look like, with the help of the creative director. The creative director would set up the ides that Jasmine had.

Her advice was when making our own music video, we must be able to work as a team and be able to compromises, and that we are not always going to get are own way. When planning we should use lots of pictures and different music videos to help us visualize how our video could look. We should created a shot list, this where we work out the timings of when certain shots are we can do this by using the lyrics of the song and the timing the lyrics come in. We could present this as a timeline. She also said we should use a storyboards with lots of pictures, and states what type of shots will be used. She said that you shouldn't’t story board your whole video as it is to time consuming and your ideas change all the time. We also should get creative with our story board and start drawing things out, which can help you see your vision of your video clearly.

Jasmine also said we should have a proper schedule which is very precise and has pacific timings of what’s happening when and where. Also a schedule where we fit in breaks etc. She also said a must have is a contact sheet as she found it very use full when creating her music video. A contact sheet has everyone details on it who’s working with you, it also has a list of props and costumes you have so you don’t lose them (Sort of like a check list).

TOP TIPS:
Be prepared to let things go.
Get involved.
Keep motivated. There are no limits.

This was Jasmine's A level music video. I believe this video's better than the one she made with the professionals.
Here's the link as it wouldn't let me embed it :(

What makes a good music video.

1) team work
2) planning
3) location
4) costumes
5) Props
6) Editing
7) Lighting
8) Time Management
9) Evaluate

Student music video

I like this students music video because it has a lot of different camera shots, and has been editing well on final cut express, i like it because you can tell a lot of work has gone in to it. I especially like the beginning of the video where through take different shots and editing the footage they were able to move the persons precision in the shot. I believe that the lip Sync has been done really well, and is very accurate. I like how they have added filters on shots, this makes it look interesting to watch. I think it had been done well, as it relates to music videos these days where they show a lot of the person who's seen as the lead singer.

Digi Pack

This is my dig pack, at first i collected lots of pictures of Butch Walker of the Internet. After i had done this i decided i wanted to go for a simple black and white theme, this is because i thought it would look less tacky with lots and colors. I also decided to put all the writing in red, this was so it would stand out against from all the black and the white, i think it makes it look quite effective and bold. I edited the front picture using a filter, to make Butch Walker look like he has a slight glow around him, this was to show the album was his and so he stood out. I also made sure all the photos i used where images of his just to exaggerate the point. I enjoyed this task and i think my works simple but bold and effective.

Personal Statement

Technical skills:
I can edit photos on photo shop and in general can just use photo shop for any sort of editing, this could be good for designing a digi pack for example. I can also am able to take photographs. I can edit on final cut, and know quite a few techniques and methods to make videos look more interesting, eg: putting different effects on certain parts of video, i am also able to lip sycnh.

Creativity:
I like to make costumes, for an example me and em created a simple "zombie" outfit, i also am able to do people make up, and be am able to change my whole look or some one Else's. For an example in Yasmin and Tilly past work, i have had to be able to change my look which included certain make up and clothes that i would never normally wear.

Organization Skills:
I organise my blog and keep update with deadlines, and try to put everything on it which i am able to do. Also when working with other groups, i have remembered to bring in things for not only their project but mine as well. I also on a regular basis organize social events (where to meet, what time and where). I think i have all the basic organization skills.

Special Power:
My special power is that i am able to act, which in the past i have been productions such as " The Christmas Carol" which i found really enjoyable to do. Acting as quite a few skills in it, for an example you have to be able to work with different people, you have to be able to remember lines and be devoted, and you defiantly have to get in to role.

Shapes video- what a diaster.

This is my shapes video i created on photo shop and final cut. I created the shaped on photo shop and made sure they were all different colors and looks interesting. I then saved each layer on photo shop as a different image, this was so i could open each shape by them selves on final cut. When i had created the shapes and saved them, i open the images on final cut and put them in a mixed up order to make it look a bit crazy, however i do not like my video at all and know it can be a lot better. I think i went wrong because instead of making shapes i was just trying to make my shapes look like a picture, and you can tell my video just looks like a big mess. However i learnt from this exercise and know where i went wrong.

The video would not let me embed it, so heres a link to it.

Karaoke Video.

On Tuesdays lesson we were spilt in to groups, my group had Em, Yas and Me in at first, however later on in the task Liam joined our group. The task was to create a music video using lip-synching, we were given the song "If You Wanna", we were very happy with this song because we knew all the lyrics, and it’s a classic!

When filming our video, as you can see we did not have much space in the rooms we were in, this is because there were no other rooms avabile that we could use, however I believe we worked well in the circumstances
We decided to lip sing to the song, however I think it would have worked better if we actually sang as we would of all been singing at the exact time.

We made sure the music was loud enough when filming so the camera could pick up the sound, we did this so we could easily use the lip synching method when coming to editing.

When we completed the filming we spilt up in to pairs, I went with Liam and Em and Yas went together. In our pairs we edited our footage on final cut, Liam and I decided what clips we wanted to use from our footage then placed them roughly were we thought they would go. After we completed this, we marked on the sound waves were a promote note in the song was, when we did this we moved the original soundtrack to were our footage was, when we sure it was in the right place we deleted the soundtrack in our footage, this was so it looked like the original soundtrack was us singing it. I believe we did well in this task, but with a little more time and different rooms I believe it could have been better.

Heres the link to Liam's and mines edited video, as i could not embed it on to here :(

Favourite Music Video.

One of my favourite music video's is "Forever Young", this is because it is a quite basic video. I like the fact that you don't see the artists in every shot of the video, this is because it makes the viewer feel like the video isn't all about them. I also liked the fact that the video has a very obvious link to the title of the song "Forever Young", the producers have focused on the word "Young" as you can clearly see from the video, as it is made up of all young people. I also like the varied shots, however there is quite a lot of close ups, but in my opinion these work well and make the video look effective. Also if you listen to the lyrics, you can see a lot of the time whats going on in the video is stated in the lyrics. This makes the viewer able to relate to the song. There are a few abstract shots in the video, which makes the video more interesting to watch. I also found the use of different lighting really effective and the video in grey scale made the whole production look bold and different.

Lipsynch

Emma and I created this video on Final Cut. We were given clips from an old student music video, in which we were to put together. This was to help us understand how to Lip Synch. Emma and I both thought it would be a very hard task, as it looked complicated. However after we got started we found it quite easy to do. We were given the original sound track and clips of the video the girls created (with background music). We had to match the original soundtrack up to the girl lip singing, this is why it was very important that there was background music on the girls set. On Final Cut Em and I made sure we could see the sound waves, in which showed us a prominent note in the music. In this case it was on the note "Ooh", when we worked this out we placed a market on both lines of were the note was. We then moved the original track to were the point was on the background music, this insured that the movement of the girls mouth would move when the lyrics were sung. For mine and Em's first time using this technique i think we did quite well, however you can see we did not get the music in the exact place as the movement of the mouth is off slightly to the music.

On Tuesday's lesson the class spilt up in to pairs, i went with Emma. We were given the task of recreating a music video by putting clips from the original video in a different order. The first thing Emma and I did was to chose a soundtrack that we liked and that was given to us. We decided to go with the soundtrack "Lola" as we thought it was the most up beat and cheerful soundtrack given to us, we also felt that the soundtrack fitted well with the original imagery we were given to work with. We then went through the imagery and thought out were each clip could go and would work best. I believe that the chosen clips work well to the beat and also flow well. Emma and I did all this on Final Cut.
