On Tuesdays lesson Jasmine came and gave us a talk about the media industry and how it can relate to us. Jasmine made an A level music video in her past, and sent it off to the BBC Blast competition. Her video was fantastic and defiantly didn’t look like a media students piece of a work. It was so good that it won the competition, the prize was to make a music video worth £3000 with a will know company, this meant working for three weeks none stop with people in the industry. She created a video to the song “lets dance” by the Wombats.
Jasmine said that one of the first things she had to do when starting to make the new music video, was to make a Treatment. A treatment is a collection of ideas of how you want your music video to be like it. It includes visuals, key words, lots of notes and it always has to be straight to the point. Jasmine said that the lyrics to the song she was making a video for helped frame her ideas.
Jasmine told us that the person with the main role in the industry is the producer. The producer is basically in charge of everything, anything she or he says goes. This includes being in charge of the budget, in charge the whole team, in charge of the artist and music.
When Jasmine was creating her budget music video, she had the role of being the director, the director is second in the media industry hierarchy. The director directs what’s going on and what the sets meant to look like, with the help of the creative director. The creative director would set up the ides that Jasmine had.
Her advice was when making our own music video, we must be able to work as a team and be able to compromises, and that we are not always going to get are own way. When planning we should use lots of pictures and different music videos to help us visualize how our video could look. We should created a shot list, this where we work out the timings of when certain shots are we can do this by using the lyrics of the song and the timing the lyrics come in. We could present this as a timeline. She also said we should use a storyboards with lots of pictures, and states what type of shots will be used. She said that you shouldn't’t story board your whole video as it is to time consuming and your ideas change all the time. We also should get creative with our story board and start drawing things out, which can help you see your vision of your video clearly.
Jasmine also said we should have a proper schedule which is very precise and has pacific timings of what’s happening when and where. Also a schedule where we fit in breaks etc. She also said a must have is a contact sheet as she found it very use full when creating her music video. A contact sheet has everyone details on it who’s working with you, it also has a list of props and costumes you have so you don’t lose them (Sort of like a check list).

This was Jasmine's A level music video. I believe this video's better than the one she made with the professionals.
Here's the link as it wouldn't let me embed it :(
